We are seeking passionate Field-Based Research Assistants to be deployed across African communities for on-site project assignments. You will be the frontline champions of our data democratization mission, working directly within communities to gather insights, build relationships, and implement solutions that empower local entities—from village cooperatives to regional enterprises.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct field research within assigned African communities and regions
  • Build and maintain relationships with local cooperatives, NGOs, and enterprises
  • Gather primary data through face-to-face interviews, focus groups, and community meetings
  • Support real-time data collection for EvalCore™ monitoring and evaluation projects
  • Facilitate community consultations and participatory research sessions
  • Serve as on-ground liaison for MarketScan™ market research initiatives
  • Support local implementation of FinClude™ financial inclusion solutions
  • Assist with technology deployment and user training for TechForge™ projects
  • Conduct field assessments and feasibility studies for new project areas
  • Coordinate with local stakeholders and community leaders
  • Train local community members on basic data collection techniques
  • Facilitate knowledge transfer sessions with village cooperatives and local organizations
  • Support establishment of community-based monitoring systems
  • Mentor local staff and volunteers on research methodologies
  • Document and share local innovations and best practices
  • Adapt research instruments and methodologies to local contexts and languages
  • Ensure cultural sensitivity in all data collection and community engagement activities
  • Translate research findings and recommendations for local stakeholders
  • Bridge communication between communities and central research team
  • Advocate for community needs and perspectives in project design

Requirements:

  • Minimum Diploma in Social Sciences, Development Studies, Economics, Data Science, or related field
  • Strong understanding of African socio-economic contexts and development challenges
  • Knowledge of research methodologies applicable to diverse cultural settings
  • Willingness to be stationed in various African communities for extended project periods (3-12 months per assignment)
  • Ability to live and work effectively in diverse rural and urban African settings
  • Strong interpersonal skills for building trust and rapport with local communities
  • Fluency in local languages relevant to deployment areas (specific requirements vary by position)
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision in remote locations
  • Experience with mobile data collection tools and offline survey platforms
  • Proficiency in basic statistical analysis and data validation techniques
  • Skills in participatory research methods and community-based data collection
  • Understanding of ethical research practices in community settings
  • Basic photography and documentation skills for field reporting
  • Genuine commitment to African development and social impact
  • Understanding of Africa's diverse markets, languages, and cultural contexts
  • Ability to work effectively with communities, NGOs, and enterprises
